His father was Johann Christian Beck, Sr supposedly from Prussia.

Lebanon School. Beck was one of the fines makers of longrifles and the most importand gunmaker in the region. Maker of Kentucky style rifles and pistols

There is a .44 caliber flintlock rifle, iron barrel, maple stock and brass side plates and trigger guard in the Frazier Museum's collection (Louisville Kentucky), manufactured in the 1770s or 1780s (or 1791 as the museum said), which could have been a gift to George Washington.
